Junior Anthony Grover of JSerra CA, the 2017 CIF Division 4 state champion, covered three miles in 14 minutes, 44 seconds Saturday to win the 20th Iolani Invitational in Hawaii.

RESULTS

Grover ran the Kualoa Ranch course 40 seconds faster than his winning time as a freshman in 2016.

It was his second victory of the season, following a strong win at the Laguna Hills Invitational the week prior.

Teammate Peter Herold followed in second, clocking 15:14.

Cy Chittenden of Mira Costa CA, third overall in 15:29, led his team to first place. Mira Costa put four in the top 11 and finished with 47 points.

Adam Harder of Hanalani, a junior, was the first Hawaii finisher, placing fifth in a personal-best 16:01.

Among Hawaii teams, the Maui boys showed they might be formidable at the state meet, scoring 147 points for fifth place. Iolani, the defending boys state champion, was sixth with 187 points.

Nadia Tabrizi of JSerra broke away from the pack midway to win the girls varsity race in 17:52. Her team finished fourth with 96 points.

Chloe Gangnath of Seabury Hall HI finished second in a personal-best 18:09.

Brooke Inouye of Mira Costa rounded out the top three (18:17) and led her team to the title with 41 points. The Mustangs put three in the top seven.

Glacier Peak WA finished second in team standings with 83 points. Punahou was Hawaii’s first team, finishing third with 89 points.
